Travel In Style: Spring City Breaks

With a long Easter weekend on the horizon, there really is no better time to book a city break.

More and more of us are trading in our traditional summer holidays for city breaks throughout the year — and with good reason! There is a lot to be said for a city break. Yes, they may be shorter than your regular two-week-in-the-sun getaway, but you actually pack so much more in! During a city break time is precious — you are less likely to waste time lounging on a beach, and instead get the opportunity to live like a local, totally immersing yourself in a new country, city or culture.

Whether you’re already booked and ready to go, or you’re looking for some travel inspiration for the Bank Holiday weekend, here at Moda in Pelle we have you covered. Read on for some of our favourite Spring city break destinations, alongside handy fashion and packing advice.

How to pack for a city break

First things first — check the weather! Spring is a funny old time, and depending on your location you could end up with anything from bright sunshine to rain or snow. You don’t want to be caught short in torrential rain, but you also don’t want to be dragging a big winter coat around if it’s not needed! Keep an eye on the forecast in the run-up to your holiday, and avoid packing anything you may not need.

When it comes to city breaks, packing light is the main thing — especially if you have to check out of your accommodation early and will be carrying your bags with you. When it comes to clothing, think capsule. A pair of jeans or a classic pair of trousers are a must, as they can be paired with multiple different tops to create varied looks. A versatile jacket is also perfect — opt for something that can be dressed down in the day and up in the evenings.

With your shoes, comfort should be at the forefront of your mind. A city break will generally include lots of exploring, and that means lots of walking! Opt for classic sneakers or ballerina flats, or comfortable boots if you’re heading to a colder location. If you’re planning any evenings out, a classic pair of heels or wedges are great for instantly dressing up your look.

Our top city breaks

Copenhagen

The capital of Denmark offers the perfect blend of old and new, with cobbled streets and traditionally painted townhouses alongside modern architecture. Copenhagen really does have something for everyone; from art and fashion to history and museums, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

When it comes to the fashion, on the streets of Copenhagen you will see classic Scandi style out in force. The Danes love a casual but very well put together look — expect structured shapes and a lot of black, grey and neutral clothing, given an edge with cool leather jackets and bold accessories.

For your footwear, keep it simple yet fashionable with sneakers. The Arlot Light Grey Leather Trainers offer an athletic style on a slightly raised sole — perfect for nailing an effortlessly stylish look and blending in with the locals.

Dubrovnik

If you’re looking for a trip away with a touch of history, you won’t get much better than Dubrovnik. Walking around the Old Town of this medieval walled city you could be fooled into thinking you were on a film set — unsurprising then, that Dubrovnik is the main filming location for Kings Landing in HBO’s Game Of Thrones!

This Unesco World Heritage site offers unrivalled beauty, with white limestone winding streets, ancient city walls and orange rooftops piled up from the sparkling ocean. Temperatures in spring tend to be slightly warmer than the UK, so dress with light layers.

Opt for flats to keep stylish and comfortable throughout your trip away. The Esto White Leather moccasins feature ultra stylish studded detailing, along with a supportive padded inner sock that means your feet will feel as great as they look! If you’re planning on heading out to one of Dubrovnik’s many bars in the evening, opt for a pair of wedge sandals. The Palmina Black Patent Leather wedges will add the perfect amount of glam to your look while remaining practical on Dubrovnik’s cobbled streets.

Edinburgh

Perhaps you’re looking for a trip a little closer to home? Look no further than the beautiful city of Edinburgh! With an Old Town steeped in history and a New Town bursting with culture, Edinburgh has earned its place as one of the most stunning and alluring cities in Europe.

With the Edinburgh International Science Festival, Edinburgh International Children’s Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival taking place over the next couple of months, you’ll find an abundance of things to do and see in this bustling metropolis. Temperatures in spring tend to mimic the rest of the UK, so plan for chilly days and the chance of rain when it comes to your wardrobe.

With your footwear, keep warm, comfortable and stylish all day long with a pair of classic women’s boots. The gorgeous Ametti Tan Leather Chelsea boots are our favourite go-to for chilly spring UK days: with a padded sock for added comfort and subtle elasticated panels, these stylish Chelsea boots will allow you to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer in true style!

Date Night Style Guide: What To Wear On Valentine’s Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day!

Whether you’re heading out on a first date with someone new, being whisked away for a 5* meal with your partner, or you’re embracing girl power on a ladies night out, Valentine’s is the perfect occasion to get dressed up and celebrate all things love.

The tricky part can often be what to wear.

From the relaxed to the formal, here at Moda in Pelle we’ve put together some of our favourite Valentine’s date night looks – so whatever you’re doing, you can be sure to do it in true style.

A cinema and food date

The tried and tested cinema and food combination! It’s a Valentine’s classic. You really do get the best of both worlds with this date; a chance for a chat and some time to relax watch a film together.

When it comes to what to wear, the key thing is to be practical. While style is, of course, at the forefront of your mind, you also need to consider that you’ll be sitting in one spot for a couple of hours. An ultra-tight bodycon skirt may quickly become uncomfortable!

A relaxed fit dress with tights and boots is a great option for a casual cinema date. Opt for an ankle boot with a slight block heel in a rich shade to keep the look fashion forward.

A Bowling Trip

A bowling date is a perfect option if you’re looking for a relaxed way to get to know someone a little better. It is laid back and opens up easy opportunities for light and fun conversation.

If you’re heading out on a bowling date this Valentine’s day, keep your outfit casual. Practicality is again important here – you need to be able to move easily and impress with your striking skills! Jeans, high-top trainers and a fun tee or logo sweater are great for keeping comfortable and stylish while embracing the ever fashionable sports-luxe trend.

A Sophisticated Dinner

If you’re being whisked away for a fancy meal this Valentine’s Day, take advantage of the opportunity to get a little dressed up. A dress, or a pretty blouse and skirt combo, is perfect for nailing Valentine’s dinner chic. Look out for pretty florals, romantic ruffles and sophisticated lace to keep the look seasonal and on-trend.

When it comes to footwear, a low stiletto is perfect for adding a touch of class to your look. Choose a pair of metallic rose gold heels for a fashionably elegant option.

Night Out With The Girls

Perhaps you’re celebrating singledom this Valentine’s Day? Or maybe you’re just using the event as an excuse for a girls night out? Either way, you need a pair of shoes to match the occasion!

A night out calls for a pair of killer heels, and if you’re looking to make a statement you won’t get much better than the stunning Ilari Suede Heels. With their classic court style set on an exquisite gemstone embellished metal filigree heel, these shoes will ensure all eyes are on you on the big night out. Opt for a sophisticated nude shade, team with your favourite glitzy little black dress, and finish the look with the matching Ilaribag Nude Suede Clutch for a Valentine’s ready evening look.

Golden Globes 2018: Top Style and Footwear Picks

The Golden Globes are always a memorable affair — this year, however, they were memorable for a different reason.

The 75th Golden Globe awards took place on Saturday 6th January and as a display of support for the Time’s Up movement, which protests gender inequality and sexual harassment in the workplace, the vast majority of women opted to wear black ensembles.

This sea of black clothing, symbolising the women of Hollywood standing together in solidarity, certainly made a powerful statement. From a fashion point of view, it also allowed the women to make their looks their own and celebrate femininity through the little touches.

Rather than restrict, the powerful black theme allowed the ladies to experiment with textures, silhouettes, cuts, embellishments and accessories, showcasing their own individuality while making a powerful combined statement.

Sit back, and enjoy some of our favourite red carpet style picks…

Embellished boots

Heeled boots are always a go-to in the colder winter months; they can (quite literally!) elevate a look while ensuring your feet remain warm and comfortable — what’s not to love? Kerry Washington led the boot brigade at this years Golden Globes with these stunning embellished ankle boots.

Featuring a low sitting ankle length and a chic stiletto heel, these ultra sophisticated boots consisted of a black transparent design with unique floral and gem detailing. Paired with her stunning glittering asymmetric dress, these embellished beauties brought just the right amount of sparkle to Kerry’s look.

If you have a special occasion coming up and have fallen in love with the embellished boots trend (and we can’t blame you!), inject instant sass into your look with the Liberti Black Alcantara Heeled Shoe Boots.

Chic low ponytails

One hair trend that was all over the Golden Globes was waves. We’ve fallen head over heels with the effortless look sported by Dakota Johnson — a tousled do, pulled back into a low messy ponytail, with a few strategic strands pulled loose to frame the face. Super quick, super easy and super chic — it’ll definitely be our go-to for Valentines next month!

Statement red lips

In an elegant all black clothing palette, red lips prevailed. The likes of Claire Foy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Mandy Moore and Zoe Kravitz all opted to make a statement with a bold red lip.

From silky berry reds to deep matte burgundies, you can discover the perfect red to complement your style and skin tone.

If you’re looking to make a impression with bold pops of colours for a more casual affair, why not opt for a pair of red shoes or an eye catching red handbag?

Wearing the pants

At this years Golden Globes we, perhaps unsurprisingly, saw women stepping away from the traditional dresses of red carpets gone by and into something a little more modern. Yes, 2018 is the year of the pant suit! We spotted androgynous power suits and glam jumpsuits on the likes of Lena Waithe, Claire Foy, Susan Sarandon and Alexis Bledel, and we can safely say we’ve been converted!

For a special occasion this year — a wedding or work party perhaps — why not break the mold in a fashion forward pant suit? Slick your hair back into a ponytail and team with simple loafers or classic flats for a chic finish, or add a touch of glamour with bed head waves and your favourite stiletto heels.

Statement jewellery

When completing a statement look, all too often it is the small touches that can make the biggest impression. Case in point at the Golden Globes; Samira Wiley’s gorgeous accent necklace!

With a unique ‘floating’ style, Samira’s embellished necklace was set on mesh at the neckline of her sleek black gown. We’ll certainly be stealing her style this season with oversized and eye-catching jewelled necklaces.

Black stilettos

Given the unofficial dress code, it is unsurprising that footwear remained largely chic, simple and (you’ve guessed it) black across the board.

From simple strappy black high heeled shoes to textured or glittery options, a black shoe is a classic, creating the perfect finishing touch to any number of outfits.

You can find out more about the Time’s Up movement, their mission, and why the stars of the Golden Globes wore black on the official Time’s Up website.

New Year Style Resolutions That You Can Make (And Keep!) In 2018

“New Year, new you”; we must have all heard that saying a hundred times by now! There’s something about the New Year that makes us all want to sort out our lives, whether that’s taking up a gym membership, cutting out bad habits or braving that trend we’ve been eyeing up for months but are just too scared to try.

To help you get 2018 off to a flying start, here at Moda in Pelle we’re talking through some of the most common and most useful New Year’s resolutions — alongside advice on how to make this year the year they actually happen!

The Resolution: Get Fit

Getting fit is basically a given on most people’s New Year resolutions list! The key thing with getting fit is to not look at it as a New Years resolution — this gives the idea of a temporary fix that will probably be forgotten come February, rather than an all-around lifestyle change.

If you want to get fit and stay fit throughout 2018, you need to consider the year as an overall. Set yourself goals for six months down the line that will ensure your good intentions don’t fizzle out after a few weeks — for example, signing up for a 5 or 10k run in the summer. This will give you a clear goal to work towards and ensure your resolution isn’t left behind after a few tough gym sessions!

The Shoes: Trainers

However you’re getting fit, whether it’s signing up to the gym or heading out on a run, trainers are an absolute must. For serious runs or gym sessions, make sure you’re fully supported with specialist running shoes. For lighter exercise, for example, yoga or pilates, make an impression with beautiful fashion trainers from Moda in Pelle. From embellished white trainers to eye-catching metallic options, you can discover the perfect trainers to give your workout ensemble a fashion-forward edge.

The Resolution: Get Organised At Work

Getting organised at work will allow you to think more clearly, be more productive and, quite simply, get more done! Follow these top tips to ensure you get the most out of your work week:

      1. Organise your space. Messy desk, messy mind! Cut your papers, stationery and accessories down to a minimum — you’ll be amazed at just how much a declutter can help.
      1. Plan your week. These days, we’re all snowed under with technology. Appointments are arranged through emails and online calendars, and it can sometimes be hard to keep on top of everything. Buy yourself a diary or desk planner with a clear week-by-week view — having everything written down in one place will go a long way in helping you keep your week organised and productive.
    1. Make the most of your commute. Rather than sitting for half an hour staring out of a train window, use your commute to clear away some basic tasks. Catch up on your emails, and make a rough to-do list so that by the time you arrive at work you’re ready to hit the ground running.

The Shoes: Office Friendly Heels

If you’re on the lookout for new office wear to match your new attitude, look no further than a classic pair of black mid heel shoes. These are versatile, comfortable and professional, ensuring you always look at the top of your game — even when you don’t quite feel it!

The Resolution: See The World

Travel really is one of the best things you can do, so if at all possible, use 2018 to start seeing the world! Whether you save for a big summer getaway, indulge in some European city breaks or even just begin exploring the good old UK, make sure this is the year you get out and about and live life to the full!

Begin saving a small amount each month, starting from January, and by summer you should easily have enough to book a relaxing trip away. If you’re on a budget, keep an eye out for last minute deals — you never know all the amazing new places you could discover!

The Shoes: Practical Flats and Summer Sandals

Wherever your destination, comfortable footwear is vital for a trip away. If you’re lucky enough to be jetting off on a beach or pool holiday, opt for pretty summer sandals. For something a little more urban, such as exploring a new city, choose a pair of simple ballerina shoes that will keep you looking and feeling both comfortable and stylish all day long.

Start 2018 off stylishly with the selection of women’s footwear at Moda in Pelle. From luxurious leather boots to sophisticated heeled shoes, here you can discover the perfect options for any occasion.

Top up your Tan

Trend Alert: Stunning and Studded

Tell us about it, stud. We’re embracing elegance with an edge this autumn, with metallic studding details on everything from boots to ballet pumps. It’s a fantastic way to bring a little touch of biker-girl chic into your wardrobe without going all-out – but we think any of these gorgeous styles would look oh-so-effortlessly cool paired with a leather jacket, dressed down denim and a messy bun. Copy off-duty style heroes like Fearne Cotton with her beach-waved bob, or Diane Kruger’s shabby chic outfits.

The luxe leisurewear trend is only getting bigger – think your comfiest trainers, crafted from soft leather with fashion-forward accents – so combining studs and leisure luxe? You better believe we’re all over it. For a style that’s comfy, cool and oh-so-chic, you can’t go wrong with Arni. Crafted on a classic trainer base with extra padding for total comfort, Arni features a metal studded upper for eye-catching off-duty style.

For classic styling with a modern Moda twist, you can’t go wrong with Natalio, one of our new firm favourites. This timeless Chelsea boot is made in Italy, and whether you choose black or burgundy leather, the studded detailing will ensure you’re bang on trend without even trying.

In gorgeous warm autumn shades, our studded collection is just to die for. Stylish workwear heroes like Felda combine a cute studded sole with shiny crocodile-effect leather, while Izziebag is sure to become your go-to grab bag for carrying your essentials. We love the stunning embellished detailing in waves, complimenting the chainlink carry handles.

Walk on the Wild Side

Are you feeling stuck in a fashion rut? Wearing the same colours and boring work clothes day in, day out? Well, no fear – we’re here to help. You can snooze the alarm one more time and grab your cosiest, comfiest outfit and still look sophisticated all day long – because our gorgeous new leopard print will let your feet do the talking for you.

We love a little bit of leopard print, and we know you do too – so take a walk on the wild side this autumn and spice up your normal ensembles with a dash of feline fashion.  From dainty ballet pumps to statement heeled ankle boots and chic scarves, we have a leopard print for every wardrobe – which one will you go for?

We might be biased, but we think leopard print is practically a neutral – so it’s super easy to slip into your workwear wardrobe. Dress up a basic outfit of smart cropped pants and a cute blouse with Bryoni, our gorgeous new leopard print loafers. We love the gold studded sole, and you can always play it up with delicate gold earrings or a totally in-right-now pendant necklace as an accent piece.

Looking for something a little more daring? Kirstie is a super chic ankle boot, perfect for adding a bold statement to any outfit. With a sophisticated stiletto heel and elastic panels for extra comfort, take Kirstie from a day at the office to drinks with the girls. We love this paired with smart tailored black denim and a slouchy leather jacket, or even with tights and a dark wrap dress if you’re feeling bold!

Ready to really make a statement? Go for Diane, our classic new feature heel with asymmetric wraparound straps, and team with bold, bright and beautiful red shades for a truly ‘wow’ statement outfit. This more-is-more look has been seen on catwalks from Dolce and Gabbana to Chanel, so you’ll be in good company!
