Travel In Style: Summer Holidays

A week or two with your out of office on, sun, sand, and a whole lot of relaxing; what’s not to love about a summer holiday?

Summer in the UK is now well underway, but with temperatures across Europe remaining at their peak well into September, there’s still plenty of time to plan a late summer holiday. If you’re on the lookout for late summer holiday inspiration, look no further. Here at Moda in Pelle we’re detailing some of our favourite destinations, alongside the footwear you will need to take you through your holiday in true style.

Travel In Style: Spring City Breaks

With a long Easter weekend on the horizon, there really is no better time to book a city break.

More and more of us are trading in our traditional summer holidays for city breaks throughout the year — and with good reason! There is a lot to be said for a city break. Yes, they may be shorter than your regular two-week-in-the-sun getaway, but you actually pack so much more in! During a city break time is precious — you are less likely to waste time lounging on a beach, and instead get the opportunity to live like a local, totally immersing yourself in a new country, city or culture.

Whether you’re already booked and ready to go, or you’re looking for some travel inspiration for the Bank Holiday weekend, here at Moda in Pelle we have you covered. Read on for some of our favourite Spring city break destinations, alongside handy fashion and packing advice.

How to pack for a city break

First things first — check the weather! Spring is a funny old time, and depending on your location you could end up with anything from bright sunshine to rain or snow. You don’t want to be caught short in torrential rain, but you also don’t want to be dragging a big winter coat around if it’s not needed! Keep an eye on the forecast in the run-up to your holiday, and avoid packing anything you may not need.

When it comes to city breaks, packing light is the main thing — especially if you have to check out of your accommodation early and will be carrying your bags with you. When it comes to clothing, think capsule. A pair of jeans or a classic pair of trousers are a must, as they can be paired with multiple different tops to create varied looks. A versatile jacket is also perfect — opt for something that can be dressed down in the day and up in the evenings.

With your shoes, comfort should be at the forefront of your mind. A city break will generally include lots of exploring, and that means lots of walking! Opt for classic sneakers or ballerina flats, or comfortable boots if you’re heading to a colder location. If you’re planning any evenings out, a classic pair of heels or wedges are great for instantly dressing up your look.

Our top city breaks

Copenhagen

The capital of Denmark offers the perfect blend of old and new, with cobbled streets and traditionally painted townhouses alongside modern architecture. Copenhagen really does have something for everyone; from art and fashion to history and museums, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

When it comes to the fashion, on the streets of Copenhagen you will see classic Scandi style out in force. The Danes love a casual but very well put together look — expect structured shapes and a lot of black, grey and neutral clothing, given an edge with cool leather jackets and bold accessories.

For your footwear, keep it simple yet fashionable with sneakers. The Arlot Light Grey Leather Trainers offer an athletic style on a slightly raised sole — perfect for nailing an effortlessly stylish look and blending in with the locals.

Dubrovnik

If you’re looking for a trip away with a touch of history, you won’t get much better than Dubrovnik. Walking around the Old Town of this medieval walled city you could be fooled into thinking you were on a film set — unsurprising then, that Dubrovnik is the main filming location for Kings Landing in HBO’s Game Of Thrones!

This Unesco World Heritage site offers unrivalled beauty, with white limestone winding streets, ancient city walls and orange rooftops piled up from the sparkling ocean. Temperatures in spring tend to be slightly warmer than the UK, so dress with light layers.

Opt for flats to keep stylish and comfortable throughout your trip away. The Esto White Leather moccasins feature ultra stylish studded detailing, along with a supportive padded inner sock that means your feet will feel as great as they look! If you’re planning on heading out to one of Dubrovnik’s many bars in the evening, opt for a pair of wedge sandals. The Palmina Black Patent Leather wedges will add the perfect amount of glam to your look while remaining practical on Dubrovnik’s cobbled streets.

Edinburgh

Perhaps you’re looking for a trip a little closer to home? Look no further than the beautiful city of Edinburgh! With an Old Town steeped in history and a New Town bursting with culture, Edinburgh has earned its place as one of the most stunning and alluring cities in Europe.

With the Edinburgh International Science Festival, Edinburgh International Children’s Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival taking place over the next couple of months, you’ll find an abundance of things to do and see in this bustling metropolis. Temperatures in spring tend to mimic the rest of the UK, so plan for chilly days and the chance of rain when it comes to your wardrobe.

With your footwear, keep warm, comfortable and stylish all day long with a pair of classic women’s boots. The gorgeous Ametti Tan Leather Chelsea boots are our favourite go-to for chilly spring UK days: with a padded sock for added comfort and subtle elasticated panels, these stylish Chelsea boots will allow you to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer in true style!
