Basel Christmas Markets, Switzerland
Basel has consistently been voted as the best Christmas market in Switzerland and remains a firm European favourite. Basel’s Old Town is, quite simply, Christmas personified. Nuremberg Christmas Markets, Germany
If traditional German markets are what you’re after, you won’t find much better than the stunning displays over at Nuremberg. Towards the end of the year, the Altstadt receives a stunning Christmas makeover, and the festivities are kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony which attracts locals and tourists alike in their hundreds.
Across the Nuremberg Christmas Markets you can expect nearly 200 traditionally adorned huts, 30 of which date as far back as 1890. Explore stalls selling locally crafted goods and gifts, and indulge in culinary delights including traditional German Bratwurst.
Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park, London
If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, look no further than London’s Winter Wonderland. Spanning across Hyde Park in the centre of London, Winter Wonderland boasts hundreds of stalls, an ice kingdom, the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink and a fairground with a huge observation wheel offering breathtaking views over the city.
Whether you want to head and watch one of the spectacular shows on offer, have a mulled wine or cider in the Bavarian Village or opt for an adrenaline-pumping trip around the fairground, there are few better places to celebrate Christmas than Winter Wonderland.
